FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO AVOID EFFECTS OF CABIN PRESSURE IN THE EAR.
Cabin pressure is a process in which conditioned air is pumped into the cabin of an aircraft,in order to create a safe and comfortable environment for passengers and crew flying at high altitudes.
it can have a terrible effect on the ear, and triggers pressure in ear drum,it can occur in one or both ears.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE
1.Moderate discomfort or pain in your ear.
2.Feeling of fullness in your ear.
3.Slight to moderate hearing loss.
PREVENTION
1.DON'T SLEEP DURING TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS
If you are awake during takeoff and landing, you can do the necessary self care techniques when you feel pressure on your ear.
2.YAWN AND SWALLOW DURING TAKEOFF AND LANDING
Yawning and swallowing activate the muscles that open your Eustachian tubes, you can suck on candy or chew gum to help you swallow.
3.USE THE VALSALVA MANEUVER DURING TAKEOFF AND LANDING
Gently blow, as if blowing your nose, while pinching your nostrils and keep mouth closed, repeat several times, especially during landing to equalize the pressure between your ears and the airplane cabin.
4.RECONSIDER TRAVEL PLANS
If possible, dont fly when you have a cold, nasal congestion or ear infection,if you recently had ear surgery, talk to your doctor to know when is safe to travel.
5.USE FILTERED EARPLUGS
These earplugs slowly equalize the pressure against your ear drum during takeoff and landing, you can purchase these at drugstores.
6.USE NASAL SPRAY
If you have nasal congestion use a nasal decongestant about 30 minutes before takeoff and landing avoid over use, because nasal decongestants taken over several days can increase congestion.
7.TAKE ALLERGY MEDICATION
If you have allergies, take your medication about an hour before flight.
